Productivity Prompt: Posting With Purpose

Most people do not struggle with how to post on social media.
They struggle with understanding what posting is actually supposed to do for their business.

When content is disconnected from values and goals, posting starts to feel random. You share something because it seems interesting, timely, or safe. Over time, that uncertainty turns into inconsistency, second-guessing, or disengagement.

This prompt is designed to reconnect social media activity to business intent, so every post has a reason to exist.

I create content for [business]. The values that differentiate my brand are [values]. My goals for my brand are to [goals]. Help me describe my ideal audience in one or two sentences, including what they care about most on social media. Then list three ideas for [platform] posts that align with my brand and goals.

"Business"

Briefly describe the business or function for which you create content. This could be a business, a non-profit, a race program, a personal brand, or a side project. You do not need a polished elevator pitch. A simple description that reflects what you actually do is enough.

"Values"

Share the values that guide how you show up. These are the principles that influence your decisions, your tone, and how you want people to feel when they interact with your brand. If your content were viewed in isolation, these values should still come through.

"Goals"

Explain what you want your brand to accomplish. This might include growth, credibility, sponsorship, revenue, community, or long-term sustainability. Being honest and specific here matters more than being aspirational.

"Platform"

Name the platform you are posting on, such as LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok, or X. Each platform rewards different behaviors, and this helps ensure the ideas fit how people actually consume content there.

Use this when social media feels disconnected from the rest of your work. This is especially helpful if you are posting consistently but not seeing meaningful engagement, or if you hesitate to post because you are not sure what belongs on your feed. This prompt helps you move from posting out of obligation to posting with intention, clarity, and confidence.
